Chastity Brown & Barbara Jean - July 21, 2013
Rising stars of the indie-roots scene in Minneapolis, Chastity Brown and Barbara Jean, will appear at the Three Springs Barn to provide us with a summer’s evening of music to savor long after the evening is over. Individually and collectively, these artists are garnering attention wherever they play.
As a musician, Chastity Brown cannot be easily categorized; she seems to move easily between genres and blends them in new and inspiring ways. One reviewer has said that she melds “bits of soul, jazz and rootsy Americana into a potent stew”. All I know is that 20 seconds into listening to her, I was taken. After you listen to “Down by the Train Tracks” (ooh, this one’s smoooth) and “When We Get There”, I’m sure you’ll agree that she’s an artist you’ll want to hear live.
Barbara Jean hails from one of our favorite parts of the world, the North Shore of Lake Superior. Larry Groce, host of NPR’s Mountain Stage, has said that she “has a subtle, seductive voice...[and] writes understated songs with a bit of north woods mystery in them.” Again, be the judge yourself as you listen to “The River”.
This evening will be more than the sum of it’s musical parts, when these two artists combine for some joint numbers as evidenced by “Come Spring”. To learn more about these musicians, visit their webpages; here for Chastity Brown and here for Barbara Jean.
As always, please RSVP to Milesdog@tds.net to reserve your seats in advance of the show; seating is limited! For this co-bill show, we’re suggesting a donation of $15. Doors open at 7; music at 8. BYOB for the communal beverage tubs. You are welcome to bring a light snack to share too. Come early and enjoy the day’s end on the prairie.
