Dietrich Strause - July 20, 2014
We weren’t going to host a show in July. It’s a busy month and it tends to be pretty warm. But then the opportunity to host Dietrich Strause presented itself. We remembered that we can cool the barn with a window A.C. unit and that everyone, including us, is always busy, so that’s hardly an excuse not to host a show. Besides, we’re pretty sure that we’ll really enjoy Dietrich and we’re guessing you will too. Here’s why...
As this great review from The Deli states, his “...bibliophilic style is reminiscent of poetry-prose artists like The Weakerthans or The Decemberists.” For those of us that enjoy clever and thoughtful lyrics, there’s a natural attraction to artists like Dietrich Strause. Given that Dietrich is an Oberlin graduate who’s been steeping himself in the Boston music scene, it’s perhaps not surprising that musically Dietrich is also top-notch. Modern Acoustic says, “...his voice is mellifluous; his sound has traces of a young Paul Simon mixed with that Josh Ritter Midwestern wanderlust.” Check out this roof-top performance and visit his website to get a taste of his music for yourself.
Finally, as hosts we have enough near overlap with Dietrich’s upbringing--apparently he grew up in a family of Lutheran preachers, teachers, and tree-enthusiasts--that we simply couldn’t pass up the opportunity to meet him.
For this show, doors will open at 7:30 PM and music will begin at 8:00 PM. Please note our summer hours. As always, please reserve your seats for this evening with an RSVP to Milesdog@tds.net. We’re asking $15.00 at the door per person, with all proceeds going to the artist. BYOB for the communal beverage tub, and a snack to share if you like. Dietrich plans to bring his trumpet. A trumpet in the barn, don’t miss it!
