Jeffrey Martin & Anna Tivel - 10/26/18
Songsters Jeffrey Martin and Anna Tivel will be visiting Three Springs Barn to close out the month of October (October 26, 2018). Jeffrey is a writer, a former high school English teacher, and a guy who recognizes that dogs (perhaps yellow labs in particular) have the capacity to help us philosophically navigate some of life’s most vexing questions. He seems like a swell guy and I think we’ll enjoy spending a Friday night with him. Of his album, Dogs in the Daylight, the folks at No Depression say, “[It’s] as close to a masterpiece as a folk album by an emerging singer-songwriter can get.” Check out, "Coal Fire”, from the Dogs in the Daylight album and “Thrift Store Dress”, from his more recent release, One Go Around.
In describing the music of Anna Tivel, Ann Powers from NPR said, “Singer-songwriters are often called poets. In truth, only a few deliver the deep insight and sense of the new that breaking through the predictable achieves. Anna Tivel is one.” Anna’s song, “Illinois” was featured in NPR’s ‘Songs We Love’. And here’s one we love that Anna gave to the world this spring; it’s called "Rodeo Queens”.
To reserve your seat for this show, please RSVP. Doors at 7 and Music at 7:30. We’re asking $15 and, as always, bring cash to pay at the door. BYOB for the communal washtubs (good fall seasonals highly encouraged) and a snack to share if you’d like. We hope you’ll join us in welcoming Jeffrey and Anna to the barn. They come highly recommended by another Jeff who’s played the barn a few times. If we’re lucky, we’ll hear some geese flying by as we stand around the fire at the set break.
